Why does a long dictation cost the same as a short one?
Ceylo counts dictations, not words and not minutes. One dictation is one hold-and-release that produces text, so a two minute paragraph and a six word sentence spend exactly the same thing, and an attempt that produced nothing spends nothing at all. The free plan includes 15 dictations a month, no time limit. Ceylo Pro removes the count. There is no meter anywhere in Ceylo measured in audio minutes or in words.

Can Ceylo learn the names in my novel?
Ceylo keeps a personal term list, My Terms, that you fill with the words you actually say: character names, invented places, the spelling of a series title, a translator's transliteration you have already committed to. Ceylo hands that list to the speech model before every dictation, and your own terms take priority over everything else it adds. Ceylo also ships vocabulary packs for six fields, and none of them is fiction, so for a novel the term list is the tool that matters.
Where does the draft land while I am writing?
Ceylo types into whichever window already has your cursor, so the words go straight into a word processor, a writing app, a browser tab or a plain text file. Ceylo puts the whole transcript in at once rather than crawling through it letter by letter, and it opens no window of its own for you to copy out of. Releasing the hotkey is the only step between the sentence and the page.
Is an unpublished manuscript safe in Ceylo?
Ceylo runs the speech model on your own hardware, so a draft nobody has read is never uploaded and no copy of it exists on our side. Ceylo has no account system, so there is no profile holding your work either. What Ceylo does send is the traffic it needs to fetch a speech model, check for updates and keep licensing honest, and none of it carries audio or text. The Privacy page keeps the full list.
Does dictation work in a language other than English?
Ceylo covers 51 languages: 50 named ones plus auto-detect, which picks the language instead of asking you to. One speech model covers all of them, so a writer working in two languages needs no second download and no menu between them. The same hotkey starts a dictation in every language Ceylo supports.
Where Ceylo is the wrong tool for a writer
Ceylo is a typist, not an editor, and there are drafts it cannot help with at all. The honest list, so nobody discovers it after installing:
- Ceylo will transcribe a voice memo you recorded on a walk, but not on the free plan: handing Ceylo a finished recording is part of Ceylo Pro.
- Ceylo drafts, it does not revise. There is no spoken command to select, delete or restructure anything: Ceylo types the words you say and applies a few optional text rules afterwards, such as a trailing space or dropping a final period.
- Ceylo writes into a window and never reads from it, so it cannot fix a word it typed a minute ago or find the paragraph you meant.
- Ceylo runs on Windows 10 and 11 only. There is no macOS, Linux, web or phone build, and none is announced.
